NATO allied countries carry out explosive joint combat drills with hundreds of warships and aircraft, in Gotland, Sweden amid conflict in Ukraine.

The Baltic Operations “BALTOPS 22” military exercise which 16 NATO member countries participated, is ongoing in Gotland, Sweden on Wednesday (June 8).

At least 45 warships, more than 75 aircraft and approximately 7,500 military staff are participating in the exercise.

“The best way to have peace is maybe to prepare for war. My opinion is that as the most people here, especially in Gotland, they know we are vulnerable here, they know we have to be able to defend us. We have to be able to say that we will not back down we will defend this island and I think most people realize that now, especially when the war in Ukraine broke out,” a Swedish soldier of the Baltic Forces said.
