KIEV - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said he was asked not to supply fighter jets to Ukraine. His remarks contradicted local press reports which claimed that Rome was preparing to send some old planes to reinforce the troops of Kiev.

Speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a visit to Kiev on Tuesday, Meloni was asked to comment on a recent report in the La Repubblica newspaper that said Italy was ready to share five older AMX fighters. “At the moment, the supply of aircraft is not on the table,” he said, adding that decisions should be made in consultation with international partners, as quoted from RT, Thursday (23/2/2023).


Instead, Meloni said Italy was working on a new weapons package for Ukraine that would include a number of air defense systems, such as the SAMP/T surface-to-air missile launcher, to be installed in coordination with France.#shorts
