In March of 1970, The Big Red One began pulling out of Vietnam, and the members of the 1/28th Recon were split up and placed in different units. Mike Nakasone was sent to join the 2/28th Recon based out of An Loc, where he walked point for the unit for a month. In April of 1970, the Big Red One left Vietnam completely, and Nakasone was sent to the 5th Infantry Division at Quang Tri Combat Base where he went to work for the S-1 Intelligence. From there, he went to Hawaii to the 25th infantry division for his final 3 months. After 21 months of active duty, and a 3 month early out, his service was complete…
