U.S. Marines F-35B Lightning II jets takeoff and land on a simulated Forward Refueling expeditionary runway near at Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan, during exercise Castaway 21.1 on March 8-9, 2021. F-35B pilots demonstrated their ability to takeoff and land on short runways, allowing for operations in remote, austere environments throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
