The head of the Army has delivered a speech in London saying this is the moment to defend the democratic values that define us.

In his first public speech, General Sir Patrick Sanders promised to do everything in his power to ensure the British Army plays its part in averting war.

Claire Sadler was at the conference where she listened to the speech.
